Our Studio

One location. One company. Two passions.

Old School Cameras and Cinematic Arts and Sound share one home at 302 Oceanside Blvd, Oceanside, CA 92054. This is where classic camera and optics gear is bought, sold, and cared for, and where that same gear is put to work on real productions.

The sound stage and our testing process

Every camera and lens we prepare goes through a rigorous testing process on our sound stage. We prep and test multi-camera setups with colors, wardrobe, and talent on hand, and we tune vintage tube cameras to perform at their best. Our lens work is equally detailed: we study the geometry, aberration, colors, refraction, resolution, and dynamic range of the optics under complex lens lighting, so you know exactly what a lens will do before it matters.

The Time Machines

While working with the Time Machines, we test and tune each camera carefully. Our services include special effects, in-camera digital RGB color upgrades, and a post-production pipeline with AI upres for final picture, with Dolby Vision where necessary. We also create degradation and analog effects, and we record with true vintage audio for an authentic sound.

Our credits

Woman of the Hour (Netflix, directed by Anna Kendrick): our custom-engineered cameras and technologies ran remote, in-house, on stage. We tested and tuned the look and feel of the 1978 Ikegami ITC-730A, and our RGB upgrade added more color and gave cinematographer Zach Kuperstein maximized latitude for the digital intermediate.

The Greatest Night in Pop (Netflix): we used our customized Time Machine Sony cameras to achieve the matched cutaways and scenes, adding depth to the film.

Dead Man's Wire (Gus Van Sant): we tested in studio and sent Gus and cinematographer Arnaud Potier a testing package with in-camera audio, which gave the impression of the true format. We tested many cameras and lighting scenarios, from exterior daylight just outside the studios to interior night scenes under fluorescent light.

Stuff! (Jon Krisel's Amazon holiday campaign): with the production in Mexico City, we tested all of the cameras using vintage lights and colors for his team. They used the same Ocher Yellows, Light Blues, and Browns we did, and it came out legendary.
