FAQ

Product Condition

How do you assess the condition of vintage cameras and lenses?

Every item in our inventory is inspected by our in-house technicians before listing. We evaluate optical clarity, mechanical function, iris blade condition, shutter operation, and overall cosmetic state. Condition is noted in each product listing.

What does "sold as is" mean?

All sales are final and sold as is. Vintage optics, cameras, and accessories may exhibit characteristics typical of their age, including yellowing inside the glass, light scratches, possible oily iris blades, and cosmetic blemishes. These are noted where known and do not necessarily affect optical or mechanical performance.

Can I get a detailed inspection report before purchasing?

Yes. Detailed inspection reports are available on request prior to purchase. Contact us at sales@oldschoolcameras.com and we'll provide a full condition breakdown for any item.

Are the cameras and lenses tested before shipping?

Yes. Items are functionally tested before they leave our facility. If you have specific test requirements (e.g., a lens projection test or camera magazine test), please reach out before ordering.

Shipping & Insurance

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we ship domestically and internationally. Shipping costs and transit times vary by destination. Contact us at sales@oldschoolcameras.com for a shipping quote on high-value items.

Is shipping insurance required?

We strongly recommend full declared-value insurance on all shipments, especially for high-value cinema equipment. Insurance is included or available as an add-on depending on the shipping method selected at checkout. Please contact us if you have specific insurance requirements.

How are items packaged for shipping?

All equipment is carefully packed using appropriate foam, cases, or custom packaging to minimize transit risk. Original cases and accessories are included where available.

What happens if an item is damaged in transit?

If your item arrives damaged, document the damage immediately with photos and contact us within 48 hours at sales@oldschoolcameras.com. We will assist you in filing an insurance claim with the carrier.

Returns & Refunds

What is your return policy?

All sales are final. We do not accept returns or offer refunds. We encourage buyers to request a detailed inspection report and ask all questions before purchasing. We are happy to provide additional photos, video, or test footage on request.

What if the item is not as described?

We stand behind our descriptions. If you believe an item was materially misrepresented, contact us immediately at sales@oldschoolcameras.com and we will work with you to resolve the issue.

Rentals

Do you offer equipment rentals?

Yes. We offer rentals on select cinema cameras, lenses, and accessories. Visit our rentals section or contact our rentals team directly at rentals@oldschoolcameras.com to check availability and pricing.

What is the difference between buying and renting?

Purchasing gives you full ownership of the equipment. Renting provides access to the gear for a defined period — ideal for productions that need specific equipment for a shoot without the long-term investment. Rental rates are based on duration (daily, 3-day, weekly).

What is required to rent equipment?

Rental requirements include a valid ID, a signed rental agreement, a security deposit, and proof of production insurance where applicable. Contact rentals@oldschoolcameras.com for full rental terms.

Is rental equipment insured?

Renters are responsible for insuring equipment during the rental period. We require proof of short-term production insurance or a damage waiver for all rentals. Contact our rentals team for details.
